They spend half their lives going to VIP parties. But for the likes of Eva Longoria, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Clarkson, Marc Anthony and Katy Perry, this one was different. The stars were bursting with excitement as they tweeted their way through the Inauguration Ball. singer Katy said President Barack Obama's celebratory bash set the benchmark for any future parties she is due to attend. Tweeting as the party wrapped up, just before 3am, she said: "Just left the White House. All other parties from here on out will be judged unless they take place at the White House."

Kelly Clarkson no doubt agreed with her. She wrote: "Just partied at the White House ....I kid you not, Michelle Obama stood up and got the party started ....seriously cool First Lady :)" The singer chose a striking Oscar de la Renta floral print dress for the occasion. Its voluminous nature meant she was the centre of attention, but getting to the bash was a bit of a problem. "My dress barely fit in the car for tonight's festivities. I feel like Cinderella! Thank you Oscar De La Renta!" Kelly managed to catch up with Beyonce, who earlier in the day had sung the national anthem at the public swearing-in ceremony on Capitol Hill. The caption accompanying the picture read: "Me and B just hangin' out ....don't worry about it. Seriously, God did good. She is so beautiful!" No-one seemed more excited than long-time Obama supporter Eva, however. The star kept her followers updated throughout the party and even before, sharing her concerns that her hair was "a little too high" as she got ready.

The finished product was flawless as usual however, as could be seen when she shared pictures of herself arriving in a classy ivory-hued strapless gown with her hair coiffured into old school Hollywood waves.

Marc Anthony posted a pic of himself looking thrilled to meet Vice President Joe Biden. He also shared his pride as he warmed up ahead of taking the stage. "A real honor to be here. In my dressing room ready to sing for the president at tonight's Inaugural Ball, " he wrote. Other stars serenading the commander-in-chief included Jennifer Hudson, who gave a rousing rendition of campaign song, Al Green's .

Alicia Keys also performed, reworking her hit into the congratulatory . Speaking to the crowd, the singer said: "Today is an incredible day and you can feel the energy wherever you go."

Jamie Foxx had the honour of singing for Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill at the ceremony. The singer and actor said: "Please make some noise for an incredible day today." Making his way onto the stage, the star added: "Now, I'm sure after this wonderful day today you will probably whisper in your wife's ears something like this." He then proceeded to belt out the classic love song .
