EastEnders and Ant and Dec win big at National Television Awards

It was a big night for Ant and Dec at Wednesday's National Television Awards. The pair added two more trophies to their already full cabinet, picking up the Most Popular Entertainment Programme for... and their 14th consequtive award for Most Popular Entertainment Presenter.

The big award of the evening - Best Serial Drama - went to, with the entire cast arriving on stage to accept the award. Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, thanked for paving the way for , and accepted the award on behalf of the "Weatherfield One". 

The show also picked up two awards for newcomer Maddy Hill and one for Danny Dyer, who thanked his wife during his acceptance speech.

The show also revealed an exclusive clue live during the ceremony relating to the Who Killed Lucy? plot that has been running for several months.

David Tennant was the surprise recipient of the Special Recognition award, with his former co-stars Billie Piper and Catherine Tate, as well as Richard Wilson and Stephen Fry speaking of his talent.

picked up Most Popular Drama, while Sheridan Smith picked up Outstanding Drama Performance for her portrayal of Cilla Black, beating out the likes of Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Maggie Smith.

The unlucky actress was stuck in traffic and did not arrive in time to collect her award, but later arrived on stage to apologise and thank voters.

won the Skills Challenge award, and judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood picked up the award, revealing how wonderful they think it is that the show unites families on Tuesday evenings.

won Best Daytime Show for the fourth time in a row, while star WIlliam Roache gave one of the night's most moving speeches, when he remembered the late Anne Kirkbride, who passed away this past weekend after a short illness.

All of the awards are voted for by the national public, and Dermot O'Leary hosted the evening.
