What do the Princess of Wales and Olivia Wilde have in common? Not much most of the time, but actress just served 'modern princess' energy in her latest outfit, and we’re positive that Kate Middleton would absolutely approve.

We’ve been a fan of her style ever since her noughties bleach blonde era. The 39-year-old has a penchant for 70s boho style dresses, tailored two pieces (with a notable love of Bella Freud) and the ability to wear a white t-shirt with just about anything both on and off the red carpet.

Wilde uploaded a series of images to her Instagram story for her 4.2 million followers with a slightly different sartorial agenda. She took inspiration from Paris Hilton's recent London wardrobe by giving ‘stylish royal’ in a navy midi dress from Alessandra Rich that boasted a fitted bodice, Victorian gigot sleeves, a frilled chelsea collar and three pearl statement buttons.

She schooled us on giving the romantic silhouette a cool-girl spin by pairing with white socks and black tassel loafers.

Wilde opted for an equally as feminine hairstyle, sporting a wavy pony with thick tendrils to frame her face. She added a dainty necklace to allow the statement collar to do all the talking, and a red manicure juxtaposed her deep coloured dress (we also know Kate would approve of Olivia’s manicure thanks to her totally unexpected bright Easter nails).

Olivia’s sublime dress immediately provoked thoughts of the Princess of Wales’ wardrobe. The stylish royal is no stranger to an Alessandra Rich number and has worn the Italian born, London-based designer on multiple occasions. An avid fan of Rich’s polka dot designs, she wore a dress on a visit to the Bletchley Park D-Day Exhibition in 2019 that boasted the same structure as Olivia's dress: navy with a fitted bodice, a sharp white collar and chunky statement buttons.

Kate also wore a navy dress from the label to the Men's final at Wimbledon last year. The dress had a more relaxed, floaty silhouette but boasted the same chelsea collar style.

Will Olivia’s dress be next on the princess’ sartorial agenda? We can’t wait to find out.
